We work very closely with the French Customs authority and are authorised by them to provide you VAT refunds. As part of that authorisation, we are required to verify your identity to ensure your eligibility for a VAT refund and to prevent fraud.

When you first sign up to use Wevat, you'll need to complete an identity check. Protecting your data is incredibly important to us, which is why we partner with Onfido (a market-leading identify verification company) to verify your identity through their electronic "know your customer" process (eKYC).

The eKYC process is easy, and should take no more than 5 minutes - you'll need to take a picture of your identification document (this is usually a passport, but other forms of ID may be accepted depending on your nationality - please check here) and a live selfie of your face using the in-app camera.
